Syrian Christians USA Concludes Landmark Washington, D.C. Visit: Meets with Senior U.S. Lawmakers and Policy Leaders to Advance the Future of Syria’s Christian Communities
Washington, D.C.: May 17, Syrian Christians USA is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of a landmark delegation visit to Washington, D.C., where representatives of Syria’s major Christian denominations met with top members of the U.S. House and Senate, as well as leaders from prominent policy institutions. The meetings marked a pivotal step forward in raising awareness and support for Syria’s native Christian population in a post-Assad era.
Over several days, the delegation held substantive, high-level meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill and thought leaders at such institutions as the America First Policy Institute, Religious Freedom Institute, and the Heritage Foundation. Delegates shared detailed updates about the humanitarian and economic situation in Syria, emphasizing the need for policies that prioritize stability, recovery, and the protection of indigenous Christian communities.
The group spoke with one unified voice, strongly praising President Donald J. Trump’s recent decision to lift economic sanctions on Syria a move they described as crucial for unlocking opportunity and reversing the tide of Christian emigration.
“This visit was a milestone for our organization and Syria’s Christian communities,” said Mirna Barq, President of Syrian Christians USA.
“We brought together voices from across Syria’s Christian denominations to speak as one, sharing a clear and unified message: lifting sanctions is not just an economic measure, it’s a lifeline for our people. It is essential to give young Christians a reason to stay, rebuild, and thrive in their ancestral homeland.” - said Mirna Barq,
The Christian population of Syria, which has existed since the earliest days of the Church, has been significantly diminished over the past decade due to war, repression under the Assad regime, and economic collapse. Syrian Christians USA warned that without meaningful relief, including the lifting of sanctions, the country’s historic Christian presence could disappear entirely.

The organization expressed deep gratitude to all the Congressional leaders and institutions that welcomed the delegation and listened with empathy, urgency, and strategic foresight.
“We are encouraged by the level of interest and commitment we encountered in Washington,” said Rana Alkoutami, Vice President of Syrian Christians USA.
“These conversations are just the beginning. We look forward to deepening our partnerships and ensuring that Syria’s Christians can remain in their homeland, not as displaced refugees, but as citizens who contribute to a peaceful and prosperous future for all Syrians.” said Rana Alkoutami, Vice President of Syrian Christians USA.
Syrian Christians USA remains steadfast in its mission to preserve Syria’s Christian heritage, promote coexistence among faith communities, and support economic renewal that gives hope to those who have suffered under dictatorship and war.
